Practical guide

Use your own website address

Your shop link, with your name on it.

Step 1

Start with the shop link shown in My Shop. Your own web address is a separate choice when you are ready to share your business publicly.

Step 2

Confirm that the website address belongs to you and check whether it already opens another website.

Step 3

Review registration and renewal prices and approve any purchase separately. We never buy a website address without your agreement.

Step 4

Check whether the website address is already in use before connecting it, so your other website continues to work as intended.

What this looks like in an ordinary working day.

“My shop has a name” and “my website address is connected” are separate steps.

A website address (sometimes called a domain name) is the link customers use to visit your shop. Check that you own it, understand its renewal price and know whether another website already uses it. Use an address that belongs to you and check its purchase and renewal costs.

A checklist you can use beside the form.

  1. Keep the stable shop route as a fallback.
  2. Confirm that you own the website address.
  3. Check whether the address already opens another website.
  4. Understand the purchase and renewal costs before committing.
  5. Confirm that the address opens the intended shop before sharing it.

Before you share your product.

Save a draft while the details are changing. Before publishing, read the product as a customer would: what is included, what it costs, which choices matter and what happens next.

If you need help, describe what you wanted to do, the page you were on and what happened. You do not need technical vocabulary. Leave passwords, provider keys and private customer details out of the message.

A good next step

Your next customer shouldn’t have to wait for your website.
